Shots were fired in several places northeast of Tel Aviv. The police assume a terrorist attack. A suspected perpetrator is shot.

At least one person has been killed and five others injured in a series of gun attacks in Israel, according to medics. The police said it was a terrorist attack. The vehicle of a suspected perpetrator was seized and the man was shot. The Israeli news portal “ynet” reported that it was an Arab citizen of Israel.

Shots were fired at people in several places

According to the Magen David Adom rescue service, shots were first fired at a gas station near Kochav Jair, northeast of Tel Aviv. Two people were injured. Further gunshot wounds were then reported in two nearby towns. A man aged around 30 died from his injuries. Numerous police forces were on duty. According to media reports, police chief Danny Levi said there was only one attacker. Initially it was said that the police were hunting for a suspected second perpetrator.

There have been repeated attacks by Palestinians in Israel in recent years. The latest incident occurred in Israeli towns near the border with the occupied West Bank.

According to his office, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a briefing on suspected terrorism. He was following the information about the “murderous attack,” it said.

Hamas praises attack

The Islamist terrorist organization Hamas praised the attack as “heroic” but did not claim responsibility for it. It is a response to Israel’s ongoing attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Jerusalem, the Palestinian organization said in a statement.
