In the period covering the Eid al-Fitr holiday in Türkiye, fuel demand reached the highest level of the last 3 years in daily averages.

According to the information compiled from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority data, total fuel sales during the 14-22 March period, including the holiday, were 726.4 million liters, 208.3 million liters of which were gasoline and 518.1 million liters were diesel.

In this period, 71.3 percent of the total fuel sales were diesel and 28.7 percent were gasoline. Average daily consumption was recorded as 23.1 million liters of gasoline and 57.6 million liters of diesel.

While fuel demand increased rapidly due to the increased intercity mobility and individual vehicle use due to the Eid holiday, diesel sales peaked at 87.5 million liters and gasoline sales reached 30 million liters on March 19, which coincided with the first day of Eid al-Fitr.

Last year, total sales during the 10-day period covering the Eid holiday were recorded as 750.3 million liters. Average daily gasoline sales were 21.3 million liters and diesel sales were 53.7 million liters. Total fuel sales during the holiday period in 2024 were calculated as 714.9 million liters. Average daily gasoline consumption was 19.7 million liters and diesel consumption was 51.8 million liters.

The decline in total sales volume this year resulted from the difference in the length of the period covering the holiday and the average daily fuel consumption reached the highest level in the last 3 years.

THE AMOUNT PAID FOR FUEL SALES APPROACHED 50 BILLION LIRAS

The amount paid for total fuel sales this year was calculated as approximately 47.6 billion lira. Of this amount, 34.7 billion lira came from diesel sales and 12.9 billion lira from gasoline sales.

Prices fluctuated during the period due to the fluctuation in the markets due to the US and Israel’s attacks on Iran. Thus, on March 14-22, the liter price of diesel was 67.08 lira on the weighted average, and the liter price of gasoline was 61.76 lira.

This year, the highest diesel sales during the holiday were in Istanbul with 68 million 72 thousand 606 liters, followed by Ankara with 33 million 596 thousand 184 liters and Izmir with 25 million 220 thousand 263 liters.
