A spokesman for the CIA did not confirm the report at first, but said that CIA director John Ratcliffe “quickly acts to ensure that the CIA workforce corresponds to the government’s national security priorities”. At the beginning of the year, the CIA was the first US secret service to participate in a voluntary personnel loss program initiated by President Trump. Since taking office in January, Trump has been promoting a radical reduction of positions and costs for the federal authorities.
Many of the proposed cuts can be attributed to the government department for state efficiency (Doge) with US tech billionaire Elon Musk as a driving force. So far, more than 200,000 employees have left the civil service.
