Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz evaluated the inflation figures announced today. Yılmaz said that they continue to fight inflation.
Stating that food prices have decreased due to the improvement in fresh fruit and vegetable prices, Yılmaz said, “We continue to work in coordination with our institutions to prevent temporary shocks from turning into a permanent pressure on the purchasing power of our citizens.” he said.
Yılmaz’s evaluation is as follows;
“We continue to fight inflation with the policies we implement with determination and coordination. While consumer inflation slowed down significantly in May compared to the previous month, at 1.71 percent, annual inflation stood at 32.61 percent. With the effect of the improvement in fresh fruit and vegetable prices, food prices decreased by 0.5 percent on a monthly basis.
The rapid decline in May inflation indicates that the increase observed last month was limited to temporary factors rather than turning into a permanent trend. This outlook shows that the risk of a permanent and widespread impact on pricing behavior remains limited.
We continue our work in coordination with our institutions to prevent temporary shocks from turning into a permanent pressure on the purchasing power of our citizens. “We aim to continue the disinflation process with determination and permanently increase the welfare of our citizens by supporting our monetary, fiscal and income policies with supply-side steps in the fields of food, housing, logistics and energy.”
