California: US government wants to take over National Guard

Demonstrators defend themselves massively against federal officials who want to arrest and deport foreigners. Security forces occur partly martial. The dispute could also escalate politically.
In view of protests against security forces from the US immigration authority ICE, President Donald Trump wants to deprive the California government, according to whose information, deprive the command over the national guard of the state. In this way, 2,000 soldiers should be used in the streets, although the authorities in the district and the city of Los Angeles do not see any need for this, the democratic governor Gavin newsoma criticized the situation on the platform X. With this step, the government led by the Republicans deliberately leads the situation, which would only lead to further escalation.
In the United States, states normally have control over the national guard. A decision by the President to take the command over the national guard of a state would be a massive escalation – and has so far rarely occurred in US history.
In the Los Angeles area there had been protests against operations by the ICE security forces since Friday. They wanted to arrest migrants – apparently to implement the goal of the president, to deport more people. The mayor of Los Angeles and the police have distanced themselves and, as usual, do not want to work with the federal authority in their area of responsibility to enable deportation.
According to the US Department of Homeland Protection, around 1,000 demonstrators attacked ICE officials on Friday. The local police only intervened after two hours, the ministry said. A senior representative of the White House spoke of an “uprising” on platform X.
