In the United States, states normally have control over the national guard. A decision by the President to take the command over the national guard of a state would be a massive escalation – and has so far rarely occurred in US history.

In the Los Angeles area there had been protests against operations by the ICE security forces since Friday. They wanted to arrest migrants – apparently to implement the goal of the president, to deport more people. The mayor of Los Angeles and the police have distanced themselves and, as usual, do not want to work with the federal authority in their area of ​​responsibility to enable deportation.

According to the US Department of Homeland Protection, around 1,000 demonstrators attacked ICE officials on Friday. The local police only intervened after two hours, the ministry said. A senior representative of the White House spoke of an “uprising” on platform X.
