The Bundeswehr exercise “Quadriga” has a special explosiveness for General Inspecter Carsten Breuer this year. He says: “Putin looks at us.”
With the large maneuver “Quadriga”, the Bundeswehr, together with 13 partnerships, rehearses the protection of the Baltic Sea area under crisis and war conditions. The aim is to strengthen the deterrent and increase your own operational readiness, explained general inspector Carsten Breuer on Monday in Berlin at the start of the maneuver. He pointed out the special explosiveness, since parts of “Quadriga” overlap with the Russian exercise “Sapad 2025” in Belarus.
“We want to put off, no escalation,” said the inspector in general and warned against “going to Russian disinformation”. You are vigilant, but have no evidence of Russian preparations for an attack. “The Bundeswehr has to practice, practice and practice again,” he said. “Putin looks at us, his plans go beyond Ukraine.”
Over 8,000 German soldiers, 40 ships, 30 aircraft or helicopters and more than 1,800 vehicles are involved in the exercise, which this time is not a formal NATO maneuver. The core of the maneuver is the strategic laying of troops and material according to Lithuania (“Grand Eagle”). According to Breuer, the partly parallel exercise “Sapad 2025” includes around 13,000 soldiers in Belarus and another 30,000 in Russia.
“Successful military operations always have a prerequisite: a functioning logistics,” emphasized Breuer. The entire supply chain is therefore practiced. A special focus is on the home protection. As part of the sub -exercise “National Guardian”, active forces and reservists, together with civilians, secure defense -important infrastructure such as ports and supply routes in Germany.
The “Northern Coasts” exercise is the maritime focus, as marine inspector Vice -Miral Jan Christian Kaack explained. The main order is the securing of the sea routes for troop transport. “A potential opponent tests us every day,” said Kaack. One focuses on the clearing of sea and the protection of critical infrastructure. The complex exercise series includes other specialized projects. At “Role2Sea”, the medical supply at sea is trained to ensure a break -free rescue chain. Defense of drones is firmly integrated in all phases.
