There is no calm on the Sony front. In order to prevent rapidly increasing subscription cancellations, the company has now started to give a free one-year Premium package to some PlayStation Plus members.
In fact, there is a huge wave of reaction behind this move. Sony has been the target of harsh criticism from gamers ever since it announced that it would no longer release boxed (physical) games as of January 2028. When many people started to cancel their subscriptions following the reactions, the company first offered special discounts on the cancellation screen to remedy the situation.
The incident first came to light with a user’s post in the r/PlayStationPlus group on Reddit. In the shared screenshot, it can be seen that a 100 percent discount has been added to the user’s account for a one-year Premium upgrade. According to the user, accepting this offer requires you to make a one-time payment ($26.23 plus tax in this user’s case) for the remainder of your current billing cycle.
OFFER NOT OPEN TO EVERYONE
Sony’s free PlayStation Plus offer has not been opened to all users. It is not yet known on what criteria Sony acted selectively or how many people the campaign reached. There has been no official statement from PlayStation officials regarding the issue.
