Joe Biden spends almost a week in his private home – he announces his withdrawal from the presidential race from Corona isolation. Now he is returning to his main workplace.
US President Joe Biden will return to the US capital Washington today after his isolation due to a corona infection. This is according to the 81-year-old’s schedule published daily by the White House. According to this, Biden will leave his private residence in Rehoboth Beach in the US federal state of Delaware at noon (local time), where he had been isolating himself since last Wednesday due to his corona infection. His personal doctor had previously announced that the symptoms had almost completely disappeared and that Biden was on the road to recovery. However, it remained unclear whether the US President is still infected with the coronavirus.
It is also unclear exactly what Biden’s appointments are this week – the schedule only includes his regular daily briefing. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in town to give a speech to both houses of Congress on Wednesday. He actually wanted to meet with Biden today as well. Biden had also announced that he would explain his reasons for withdrawing from the US presidential race in more detail this week.
Shortly before his return to Washington was announced, Biden had joined Kamala Harris by phone during a visit to the Democratic campaign headquarters. He addressed those present via phone with words of support for Harris. Looking ahead to the coming weeks, Biden announced that he would be “completely involved”. “I’ll be out there campaigning with Kamala,” he said. “I’ll work like a madman, both as the sitting president to get legislation passed and on the campaign trail.” He is determined to “achieve as much as possible, both in foreign and domestic policy” in his remaining term in office.
During Harris’ appearance in Delaware, Biden stayed connected, listened to her speech, and commented on it at times. It was the first time since he withdrew from the race that the president’s voice was heard publicly. He had announced his decision in writing from Corona isolation.
