Although official investigations identify Lee Harvey Oswald as a lone perpetrator, many Americans believe there was a conspiracy. Trump had already made a similar announcement during his term in office from 2017 to 2021 and actually published some documents related to the assassination of JFK. Ultimately, however, he bowed to pressure from the CIA and FBI and kept much of the documents under wraps citing national security concerns.
1 a.m.: US President-elect Donald Trump wants to reverse important decisions made by his predecessor Joe Biden in the first hours after his inauguration. “Every radical and senseless order from the Biden administration will be repealed within hours of my swearing in,” the Republican said at a rally in front of cheering supporters in the capital, Washington. The 78-year-old promised a big wave of decisions on his first day in office, including on deporting migrants and securing the border. “Tomorrow at noon the curtain will close on four long years of American decline and we will begin a brand new day of American strength, prosperity, dignity and pride,” Trump said to thousands of cheering people.
At the rally, the band Village People paid musical honor to the US President-elect. During his election campaign, the Republican used her world-famous hit “YMCA” and the song “Macho Man” (both from 1978) to set the mood at almost every event. The “YMCA” live performance shortly before he took power on Monday was the icing on the cake, so to speak. Trump also showed off his now iconic dance, a slightly awkward choreography that caused enthusiasm among his supporters.
At the rally, Trump also brought the very rich entrepreneur Elon Musk onto the stage – thereby underlining the close relationship between the two. Musk, who, in addition to the car manufacturer Tesla, also owns the online platform X, appeared with his son X Æ A-Xii and caused cheers in the audience. “Sorry, little X just followed me on stage. He’s a very enthusiastic supporter, as you can see,” Musk said.
