According to the statement made by Uludağ Automotive Industry Exporters Association (OİB), automotive exports decreased by 0.4 percent in August compared to the same period last year, reaching 2 billion 715 million dollars.

The automotive industry, which ranks first in the country’s exports on a monthly basis, received a share of 12.3 percent in total foreign sales.

In August, exports of the supply industry, which is one of the sub-product groups of the sector, were recorded as 1 billion 214 million dollars, passenger car exports were 723 million dollars, exports of motor vehicles used for carrying goods were 411 million dollars, exports of buses-minibuses-midibuses were 216 million dollars, and exports of tractors were 109 million dollars.

In the supply industry, the largest exports were to Germany, to the United Kingdom in passenger cars and motor vehicles for transporting goods, and to France in the bus-minibus-midibus product group.

Germany, with $356 million worth of exports in August, stood out as the country with the highest exports. The United Kingdom was the second largest market with $324 million, and France was third with $248 million worth of exports.

Exports to the European Union, which ranks first in the country group with a 65 percent share, were recorded as 1 billion 771 million dollars, a decrease of 0.5 percent compared to August of last year.

While other European countries ranked second among the country groups with a 15 percent share, exports to this country group increased by 33 percent compared to the same month last year.

OIB Board Chairman Baran Çelik, whose views were included in the statement, stated that production was suspended in the automotive industry in August due to planned maintenance and repair work.

Despite this, Çelik emphasized that they exceeded the August average in exports last month and recorded double-digit increases in goods-specific motor vehicles and bus-minibus-midibus product groups, and said, “There were 24 percent increases in exports to the United Kingdom, 116 percent to Slovenia, and 108 percent to Romania, which are among the most important markets. The exports of our Turkish automotive industry in the January-August period increased by 3.4 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 23 billion 531 million dollars.”
