A new regulation proposal regarding millions of vehicles that are not actually used in traffic and do not have any inspection, insurance or any transaction records for a long time was brought to the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.
The bill prepared by CHP Deputy Melih Meriç envisages that old vehicles that meet certain conditions will be considered as scrap and the Motor Vehicle Tax (MTV) debts of these vehicles will be erased.
According to the proposal, a special application will be implemented for vehicles with a model year of 2000 and older that have not had a vehicle inspection in the last five years, do not have compulsory traffic insurance and have no transfer, sale or usage records.
In this context, it is planned that vehicle owners will be able to benefit from this opportunity if they apply within one year from the regulation’s entry into force.
The following statements were included in the justification of the bill:
“Citizens are experiencing serious grievances, especially because old model trucks and tractor-type vehicles used in the transportation sector have lost their economic value over the years, and some vehicles have actually disappeared or become unusable.”
