Studies are carried out in line with Turkey’s vision of being among the leading countries in the world with its original scientific studies on polar sciences. In this context, national scientific expeditions are organized to the polar regions (Arctic and Antarctica) regularly every year under the auspices of the Presidency, the auspices of the Ministry of Industry and Technology and the coordination of TÜBİTAK MAM KARE.

The expeditions aim to enable scientists to conduct original, sustainable and high-quality scientific studies on polar sciences, as stated in the 12th Development Plan and Polar Science Strategy Document, to ensure cooperation with scientists from other countries and to ensure Turkey’s place among the respected countries with a say in the polar regions.

In this context, the 2025 KUTUP-1001 and KUTUP Foreign Research Base Participation project calls, which will support scientific studies on the “Poles”, were opened within the framework of the conditions determined by TÜBİTAK-MAM KARE and ARDEB.

The scientific research budget within the scope of the calls was 900 thousand lira, and the project incentive bonus that can be paid within the scope of the project was 100 thousand lira. The deadline for online applications for the said calls was determined as September 27, and September 30 for the completion of the e-signature process.

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATIONS WILL BE SUPPORTED

It is also planned to support international collaborations within the scope of the National Antarctic Scientific Expeditions. In this way, scientists who conduct or want to conduct studies on Antarctica in Turkey will carry out joint projects with other countries operating on the continent.

Cooperation projects of researchers who want to conduct scientific research will be evaluated by TÜBİTAK MAM KARE and those found suitable will be supported. This call only covers country bases/expeditions that cooperate on the Antarctic continent.

In order to carry out R&D and scientific research activities in the field of polar sciences, polar projects that can be carried out with or without participation in national scientific expeditions planned to the Arctic region and the Antarctic continent are supported.

The upper budget limit for projects within the scope of the calls has been determined as 1 million lira. A maximum of 100 thousand lira project incentive bonus can be paid. In projects requiring participation in expeditions, cargo/transportation, travel and accommodation plans will be made by TÜBİTAK MAM KARE within the climate conditions and logistics possibilities of the Polar regions.
