Apple is having a tough time in China. While the Chinese smartphone market is set to grow by 10 percent with more than 70 million shipments in the second quarter (Q2) of 2024, the American giant is no longer among the top five vendors.
In the second quarter of 2024, the top five places in the ranking of best-selling smartphones on the Chinese market were occupied by Chinese companies. This was the first time in the history of the Chinese smartphone market.
Vivo ranked first again in this period with 13.1 million shipments and 19 percent market share, while Oppo (11.3 million and 16 percent market share) and Honor (10.7 million and 15 percent) were the top three manufacturers.
Huawei, in fourth place, maintains its place with 10.6 million smartphones sold during this period and 15 percent market share. Xiaomi was among the top five manufacturers with 10 million phones and 14 percent market share.
Apple is in sixth place with the iPhone. Its market share is equal to Xiaomi’s at 14 percent, but its sales are lower. About 9.7 million units, according to calculations by the American media outlet CNBC.
