The process of determining the new minimum wage, which directly concerns nearly 7 million employees and indirectly concerns the whole society, officially started with the first meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission on December 10. According to the news in TRT Haber, the Commission will hold its second meeting tomorrow at 14.00.

In the first meeting hosted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the employers’ side was represented by the Confederation of Turkish Employers’ Unions (TİSK), and the workers’ side was represented by TÜRK-İŞ, as it is the confederation with the most members.

The head of the employers’ delegation was TİSK Secretary General Akansel Koç, and the head of the workers’ delegation was TÜRK-İŞ Deputy Chairman Ramazan Ağar. This year, the workers’ delegation headed by Ağar included cook Selma Sayın, hairdresser Nihan Koçak, Highways subcontracted worker Durmuş Öztürk and press member Sezer Özseven.

Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan, at the first meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission within the scope of its work to determine the new minimum wage, stated that the minimum wage determined by worker and employer representatives does not represent a general wage but the minimum wage that can be paid to employees and said:

“In the process of determining the minimum wage, we act especially with a three-way social dialogue mechanism. We evaluate the opinions of workers’ representatives. We listen to the opinions of employer representatives. As government representatives, we keep the scales of justice in balance. In the process of determining the minimum wage, we also carefully evaluate economic indicators. In this context, the inflation rate, By analyzing in detail economic and social conditions such as the purchasing power of citizens, the needs of labor markets, economic growth, protection and increase of employment, we hope to determine a fair minimum wage that considers the satisfaction of both workers and employers. We do.

The current minimum wage is 17 thousand 2 lira net

The minimum wage is currently applied as 20 thousand 2 lira and 50 kuruş gross per month for a worker, and as a net 17 thousand 2 lira 12 kuruş when deductions are reduced.

The total cost of the minimum wage to the employer is 23 thousand 502 liras and 94 kuruş for one worker. Of this, 20 thousand 2 liras and 50 cents are gross minimum wage, 3 thousand 100 liras and 39 cents are social security premiums, and 400 liras and 5 cents are employer unemployment insurance fund.

What is the current minimum wage and who does it concern?

The increase in the minimum wage has an increasing effect on all wages, especially wages in workplaces where collective bargaining agreements are implemented.

In addition to directly affecting the employees who earn their living on this wage, the minimum wage also concerns most of the society as it is accepted as a criterion in many regulations in the legal legislation.

Minimum wage figure; It affects many items, including unemployment benefits, severance pay, GSS premiums, military service and maternity debt, optional insurance premiums, internship fees, and report fees of minimum wage earners.

How is the minimum wage determined?

The minimum wage is determined by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which consists of 15 people, including five representatives from workers, employers and the government, as required by law. The Commission is called to a meeting by the Minister of Labor and Social Security and meets four times in December as part of the work to determine the new minimum wage.

The commission, chaired by one of the members determined by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, meets with the participation of at least 10 members and decides by majority vote. In case of equality of votes, it is assumed that the side with the Chairman of the Commission has the majority.
