Drones from Russia violated Polish airspace. Selenskyj accuses West of passivity.
After the penetration of several Russian drones into Polish airspace, the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj of Western countries and the international community have accused of inactivity in the face of Russia’s behavior. In his every evening video address, Selenskyj said on Wednesday: “There were more than enough explanations, but so far there has been a lack of deeds. The Russians test the limits of the possible. They test the reaction. They observe how the armed forces of NATO countries react.”
Poland had found a total of 19 injuries to his airspace on Wednesday night. Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that the EU and NATO country then shot at least three Russian drones.
According to Tusks, Poland received concrete offers of air defense from the European allies. Tusk wrote on portal X that he spoke to Chancellor Friedrich Merz, France’s President Emmanuel Macron, the British Premier Keir Strander, Italy’s head of government Giorgia Meloni and NATO General Secretary Mark Rutte. Selenskyj himself offered at X that Ukraine could train Polish soldiers, among other things, in air defense.
After the penetration of Russian combat drones into Polish airspace, there were more than just expressions of solidarity, said Tusk. However, he did not give any details about the support offered. For the first time in more than three and a half years of the Russian attack war, the Polish Air Force had shot down Russian drones stationed in Poland.
UN Secretary General António Guterres warned of an expansion of the conflict in view of the incident. “The incident again underlines the regional effects and the real risk of expanding this devastating conflict,” said Guterres’ spokesman Stéphane Dujarric.
