At the facility in Torrance, near Los Angeles, container-sized systems process aluminum and special alloys layer by layer, making missile parts ready in a short time. According to experts, this method means a significant transformation in military production in terms of cost and speed.
Costs drop by up to 90 percent
The cost of the new generation missiles produced with the system developed by the company varies between 200 thousand and 500 thousand dollars. In traditional systems, this figure goes up to 2 to 6 million dollars.
While it is stated that each 3D printer can produce hundreds of missile bodies per year, one of the most striking aspects of the system is its flexible production capacity. The same production line can also produce automotive parts without requiring any modifications.
Support from Pentagon: “Arsenal of freedom”
Divergent is among the new generation defense companies that the US Department of Defense calls the “Arsenal of Freedom”. This initiative is part of the strategy that aims to increase the production power of the USA again.
Minister of Defense Pete Hegseth pointed out the slowness and bureaucracy in the sector and emphasized that speed and cost effectiveness are decisive in modern wars.
War increased demand
While the demand for defense technologies is increasing rapidly after the tension with Iran, company officials state that there is now a consensus in the Pentagon that “high-volume ammunition production is an urgent need.”
From missile to first flight in 71 days
Another notable success of Divergent is its development time. The company announced that it was able to take a missile design from concept to first flight in just 71 days.
This speed creates a significant difference compared to traditional production processes in the defense industry.
From supercar to military technology
Founded in 2014 as an automotive startup, Divergent initially produced high-performance vehicles, but over time it turned to defense technologies.
The company’s founder, Kevin Czinger, argued that the USA could become the global production leader again,
“We can make America the production center of the world again in the coming years,” he said.
War technology at the speed of Silicon Valley
According to experts, 3D printing and artificial intelligence-supported production may be the beginning of a new era in the defense industry.
While it is expected that weapon production will become faster, cheaper and more flexible thanks to this technology, it is also evaluated that it may have significant effects on global military balances.
