In a Frankfurt restaurant, a woman falls from a hand-shaped chair – and breaks her finger. A court is of the opinion that if you sit down, you have to be careful yourself.

Be careful when sitting: After tipping over in a designer chair in a Frankfurt restaurant, a woman’s lawsuit for compensation for pain and suffering has failed. The Higher Regional Court (OLG) in Frankfurt am Main rejected their claims, as the regional court had previously done. Anyone who sits on unusually shaped chairs must “adapt their behavior to the special properties and any tendency to tip over,” the Higher Regional Court wrote in a statement.

According to the Higher Regional Court, an innkeeper must ensure that his guests can stay with him safely. However, this does not relieve guests of their obligation to ensure their own safety – to a reasonable extent. “Road safety that excludes any damage is not achievable in practical life,” it said.
