The Ukrainian head of state is calling on the US President to put more pressure on Russia – but he doesn’t seem to see any need for action in this regard. Quite the opposite.
US President Donald Trump Despite the criticism of his recent actions in the Ukraine war, he wants the aggressor Russia does not take more responsibility and sees above all the Ukraine under pressure. Asked by a reporter what he said about Russia violating the energy ceasefire he announced, Trump said: “Well, I’d have to look into it first because there were violations on both sides.”
When asked how he is Russia’s President Vladimir Putin To persuade him to stick to the ceasefire, Trump said he believed Putin wanted to reach an agreement – and the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky have to make you want that too. Trump also brushed off another reporter’s question about where he saw Putin’s willingness to reach an agreement if he attacked Ukraine without a word of criticism of the Kremlin: “I think they will reach an agreement. I actually believe that Putin is more interested in making a deal than Zelensky.”
Zelenskyj is waiting for “concrete steps” from the USA
Zelensky had that USA previously called on Russia to comply with the ceasefire announced by Trump and limited to the energy sector. “We are waiting to see what concrete steps the Americans are willing to take,” Zelensky said in a video broadcast speech at the Warsaw Security Forum.

Zelensky continued that people were very surprised on Sunday by Trump’s announcement on social media that all attacks on energy facilities in the Ukraine war would be stopped immediately. “And immediately after the post was published, Russia carried out a targeted attack on a power plant in Kharkiv, causing further damage to our energy system.”
Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine would agree to a stop to attacks on energy facilities if Russia also respected this. That’s why they refrained from attacking Russian oil refineries last night.
Criticism of Trump’s diesel deal
Trump has offended Ukraine several times in the past few days: after a telephone conversation with Putin, he demanded Zelensky’s replacement and announced an agreement to deliver hundreds of thousands of tons of diesel from Russia. There was strong criticism of this from European allies as well as at home. Several US senators – including Republicans – criticized the diesel deal as illegal because Congress had banned the import of Russian energy sources in 2022 so that the USA would not finance Russia’s war.
