Google has released an urgent update after detecting a serious security vulnerability in its Chrome browser that is actively exploited by hackers. The vulnerability in Chrome, which is used by approximately 3.6 billion people worldwide, can leave users vulnerable to cyber attacks.
The vulnerability was detected by researcher Salvatore Gulizia and reported to Google. The company announced that the vulnerability in question is a “zero-day vulnerability” and that attackers are already using this vulnerability.
GOOGLE KEEPING THE DETAILS HIDDEN FOR NOW
According to the news reported by Independent Turkish; The update, released for Windows, macOS and Linux operating systems, includes 12 security fixes related to the vulnerability tracked by the code CVE-2026-85046.
Google has not shared the technical details of the vulnerability for now, in order not to make it easier for attackers to exploit the vulnerability and to give users time to install the update.
The company’s security announcement stated, “We are aware that a software exploiting the CVE-2026-85046 vulnerability is actively used on the internet.”
A MALICIOUS WEBSITE MAY BE ENOUGH
Initial findings indicate that the vulnerability could be exploited by tricking users into visiting an HTML page containing malicious code.
If the attack is successful, it may be possible for hackers to take control of the Chrome tab. This can have serious consequences, including system crashes, malicious code execution, or sensitive data being compromised.
Google did not provide information about how many people the vulnerability affected, which attackers used it, or whether specific people and organizations were targeted.
UPDATE CALL FROM GOOGLE TO CHROME USERS
Google requested that Chrome be updated to the latest version so that users can be protected against attacks.
Chrome users need to check for available updates by going to Settings > About Chrome and install the update if available.
This development comes at a time when concerns are growing about the use of artificial intelligence in cyber attacks. Google Threat Intelligence Group researchers announced that in their previous studies, they detected an attacker trying to exploit a zero-day vulnerability believed to be developed with artificial intelligence.
