The Ministry of Commerce has redefined the principles regarding vehicles brought to Türkiye temporarily by people living abroad.

The Ministry’s “Communiqué on Amendments to the Customs General Communiqué on Temporarily Imported Land Vehicles” was published in the Official Gazette and entered into force.

According to the current provisions of the Communiqué, people residing outside the Turkish Customs Territory, retired people from abroad, including those retired on disability and those entitled to pre-retirement, are given 730 days to purchase their vehicles if they present their retirement certificate.

With the amendment of the communiqué, the definition of the retirement document that must be submitted has been redefined.

Accordingly, for people who will show that they have retired from abroad, the document issued in accordance with the social security legislation of the relevant country that they are entitled to due to their employment and the Turkish translation of this document approved by the embassy, consulate or notary will be accepted as retirement certificate.

With the notification, the principles regarding the persons who will use the vehicle other than the rightful owner were also redefined. Accordingly, vehicles temporarily imported by taking advantage of touristic facilities can be used by the spouse or relative of the permit holder whose place of residence is outside Türkiye. It will be possible for people whose place of residence is outside Türkiye to use these vehicles, provided that the permit holder is present in the vehicle.
