Iran announced that the final stages of the final agreement with Oman to determine new corridors through the Strait of Hormuz have been reached.
However, he reiterated that the US must take some steps, such as paying compensation and ending sanctions and military threats, in order to reopen the strait to traffic.
Speaking to Reuters on Friday, a US official stated that Iran and Oman were close to an agreement that could pave the way for the restoration of safe passage through the strait.
The Strait of Hormuz, which was closed to traffic in response to the US and Israeli attacks on Iran in February, was an important transit point for global oil and natural gas shipments before the war.
In his statement yesterday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi emphasized that they are in the “final stages” of the agreement with Oman for the Strait of Hormuz, but that the US will not reopen the strait unless it meets some of Tehran’s demands.
Arakchi stated that there were no direct talks between Iran and the USA and that Tehran would not restart these talks as long as Washington violated the interim agreement signed in June, and also stated that messages were exchanged through intermediaries.
In his interview with Axios, US President Donald Trump said that the US was “being cautious” in relations with Iran and added:
“We are negotiating (with the Iranians) on a limited scale. We are just watching Iran, which is struggling with high inflation and has no money.”
