10 percent increase in public transportation in Istanbul!

The third session of the IMM Assembly’s July meetings was held at the municipality building in Saraçhane under the chairmanship of the 2nd Deputy Chairman of the Assembly, Gencay Özcan.

The agenda item titled “Public Transportation Fare Tariff Regulation”, which includes a 10 percent increase for public transportation vehicles such as buses, metro, metrobus, minibuses and ferries in the city, as well as taxis and school services, was discussed in the parliament.

In this context, it was requested that the electronic full ticket be increased from 42 lira to 46.20 lira, the student ticket from 20.50 lira to 22.55 lira, the “Blue Card” monthly subscription fee from 3 thousand 298 lira to 3 thousand 628 lira, and the student monthly subscription fee from 593 lira to 653 lira.

The proposal included increasing the fare for 1 stop on the metrobus from 30.07 lira to 33.08 lira, and the fare for 34-43 and above stops from 62.35 lira to 68.59 lira.

In Marmaray, it was suggested that the travel fee between 1-3 stations should be increased from 34 lira to 37.40 lira, and the travel fee between 36-43 stations should be increased from 74.70 lira to 82.17 lira.

In maritime transportation, it was proposed to increase the fee for the Üsküdar-Eminönü voyage from 53.20 lira to 58.52 lira, the fee for the Kadıköy-Eminönü and Kadıköy-Beşiktaş voyages from 59.28 lira to 65.21 lira, and the Bostancı-Adalar voyage fee from 156.26 lira to 171.89 lira.

It was requested that the taximeter opening fee be increased from 65.40 lira to 71.94 lira, the distance fee from 43.56 lira to 47.92 lira per kilometer, the time tariff fee from 544.45 lira to 598.90 lira per hour, and the short distance fee from 210 lira to 230 lira.

The short distance fare, which is described as “hop-on-hop-off” in minibuses, is increased from 39 lira to 43 lira for a distance of up to 4 kilometers, from 41 lira to 45 lira between 4 and 7 kilometers, from 42 lira to 46 lira between 7 and 11 kilometers, from 43 lira to 47 lira between 11 and 15 kilometers, and from 15 to 20 kilometers. It was requested that the distance between kilometers should be increased from 47 lira to 52 lira, and the student fee should be increased from 25 lira to 28 lira.

While the request to increase the distance fee between 0 and 1 kilometer in school bus fees from 4 thousand 51 lira to 4 thousand 456 lira and the personnel service fee from 2 thousand 284.54 lira to 2 thousand 512.99 lira was included in the agenda item in question, it was noted that the new tariff will be valid as of July 20.

In the voting held in the parliament, the agenda item titled “Public Transportation Fare Tariff Regulation”, which included a 10 percent increase in public transportation, taxi and school services in the city, was accepted with the votes of the CHP group and the majority of votes, against the “no” vote of the AK Party.

Public transportation in the city was increased by 20 percent on February 12, 2026.
