Instagram is working on new options that will allow users to further personalize their content feed.
According to the latest post by Instagram President Adam Mosseri, the platform is testing expanding access to the “Your Algorithm” feature, where users can determine which topics they want to see more and which ones they want to see less.
ALGORITHM SETTING IS IMPROVING
Mosseri said that Instagram wants to place this feature at the center of the user experience, rather than just being an option in the settings menu.
Accordingly, Instagram is working on new interfaces where users can more easily edit their algorithms while streaming or watching Reels.
In one of the examples shared by Mosseri, the user can access the “Your Algorithm” menu when he pulls down the screen in the main stream. In another example, while watching Reels, a similar personalization screen opens with the swipe up gesture.
In the third example, there are buttons under each Reels video where the user can indicate whether they want to see more similar content.
The purpose of the new system is not only for Instagram to offer suggestions to users, but also to leave the direction of these suggestions more clearly to the user.
Users will be able to reduce the topics they are not interested in and highlight the types of content they are interested in. Thus, it is aimed to reduce irrelevant content encountered especially in the Reels and discovery stream.
