Trump is investing $700 million in coal-fired power plants

“Beautiful, clean coal”: Under this motto, US President Donald Trump has announced investments of 700 million dollars (around 603 million euros) for the coal industry. The aim is to modernize power plants in the USA, expand mines and build a container port north of San Francisco intended for exports.

According to Trump, the money will be used to build two new coal-fired power plants. Additional funds are to be used to maintain around a dozen existing facilities and 42 coal mines. This will secure “more than 14,000 jobs,” said the president. Most of the facilities are in states where Trump won majorities in the 2024 presidential election.

Report: USA won’t supply Tomahawks – because of Russia

The USA is apparently refusing to supply Germany with Tomahawk cruise missiles out of fear of a possible reaction from Russia. This is reported by Politico magazine, citing European and US officials. Accordingly, Washington fears that Russia could view a delivery of the Tomahawk cruise missiles as an escalation.

An agreement from 2024 actually stipulated that from 2026 onwards the USA would again station medium-range weapons with conventional warheads in Germany that could reach as far as Russia. These should include Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range of up to 2,500 kilometers, SM-6 missiles and newly developed hypersonic weapons.

Recently, however, there had been increasing indications that the Trump administration did not want to adhere to the agreement made by the previous government. This was preceded by a verbal exchange of blows between Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) and US President Donald Trump.
