Between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. entry is prohibited until further notice “to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents,” the mayor explained. In front of the accommodation with a thousand beds, there had been clashes between police officers and critics of US President Donald Trump’s immigration policy several nights in a row.

The protests began after a hunger strike and work stoppages by migrants against conditions at the ICE immigration detention center. After there were largely peaceful demonstrations on Saturday, including by supporters of the US immigration agency ICE, some demonstrators tried to break through a police barrier. They then used tear gas. New Jersey’s Democratic governor, Mikie Sherrill, condemned the violence.

Mayor Mamdani boycotts Israel parade in New York – and receives sharp criticism

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani became the first mayor in decades to boycott the annual Israel parade in the metropolis, drawing sharp criticism. The mayor has decided to “turn his back on tens of thousands of Jews and supporters of Israel,” said Israel’s UN ambassador, Danny Danon, in New York. Thousands of supporters marched through the streets of Manhattan at midday (US time) with Israeli flags, blue and white balloons and T-shirts that read “I love Israel.”

“I already said during the election campaign that I would not take part in the parade. And I made my views on the Israeli government very clear,” said Mamdani, explaining his decision.

New York City is home to around one million Jewish residents, making it the largest urban Jewish population in the world outside of Israel. The parade has typically been held annually since the 1960s.

“I’m not in a hurry”: Trump comments on Iran talks

After reports of an agreement on a framework agreement between the USA and Iran, US President Donald Trump is stepping on the brakes: According to US media reports, Trump sent the fully negotiated agreement back to Tehran with “tougher conditions”. Trump told Fox News that he was “in no rush.” Iran’s chief negotiator and parliament speaker Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf said on Sunday that Tehran would not agree to any agreement that did not protect the rights of Iranians.
