This deadline could be Trump’s undoing

The fronts between Tehran and Washington have hardened. Now the US Congress could put an end to the Iran war – an important deadline is soon approaching.
A crucial deadline for US President Donald Trump ends next week. As the US media “New York Times” reports, the US Congress could prohibit him from continuing the war against Iran from the beginning of May.
More precisely, it is a deadline that expires on May 1st. The reason for this is the War Powers Resolution from 1973, which regulates the use of armed forces by the US President. The US President can therefore order military operations without the prior approval of Congress. However, he must inform Congress within 48 hours if he deploys troops. And on the other hand, missions may last a maximum of 60 days without congressional approval.
The attacks on Tehran began on February 28th, and according to the report, Trump officially informed Congress about the operation on March 2nd. This began the 60-day period, which ends on May 1st. Congress has yet to give its consent to allow Trump to continue US combat operations.
According to the New York Times, several Republicans have already signaled that they will not support an extension beyond 60 days. The medium quotes Republican Senator John Curtis from Utah: He will “not support continued military action beyond a period of 60 days without congressional approval.” Democratic Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut also said: “Many Republicans have publicly advocated that the 60-day deadline be considered legally significant.”
There is currently no end to the Iran war in sight. Trump is reportedly giving Iran just days to come up with a proposal to end the war. However, Tehran sees itself in a position of strength with the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which is important for the global economy.
According to the Wall Street Journal, mediating states including Turkey, Pakistan and Egypt are feverishly trying to arrange a new meeting between the two sides, possibly this Friday. The USA and Iran warned that they were ready to resume fighting.
