Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, who announced the inflation figures announced today and which are below expectations, said that although geopolitical risks have inflationary effects, they continue to implement the economic program for permanent price stability.
Şimşek said that they expect the improved climatic conditions after last year’s frost and drought to support the food inflation outlook this year.
Minister Şimşek’s inflation assessment is as follows;
“While inflation was 1.9 percent monthly in March, annual inflation decreased to 30.9 percent. Food inflation improved by 4.8 points compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 32.4 percent annually. We expect the normalization in climate conditions after last year’s frost and drought to support the food inflation outlook in 2026.
Annual services inflation decreased by 16.1 points in the last year. Disinflation in services; We anticipate that the downward trend in rent inflation will become more evident in the coming period with our policies to increase housing supply and rule-based pricing in education. We are taking the necessary steps to limit the effects of geopolitical developments on our economy.
With the fiscal space we created during the program period, we are quickly and effectively implementing applications such as Ecel mobile that will reduce inflationary pressures. “Although these shocks may have inflationary effects in the short term, we continue to implement our policy set in a holistic and determined manner that will enable us to achieve our goal of permanent price stability.”
