Negotiating teams from Moscow and Kiev have met several times in Turkey to fight for an end to the Russian war of aggression. Now Ukrainian President Zelensky is there.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in Istanbul for talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The meeting, which was planned for the afternoon, would also focus on efforts to achieve lasting peace in Ukraine, Erdogan’s office said.

Zelensky announced his stay on Platform X after his arrival and posted a video of his arrival at the airport. “We are working to strengthen our partnership to ensure real protection of people’s lives, promote stability and guarantee security in Europe and the Middle East,” he wrote.

Against the backdrop of the Iran war, he was in several countries in the region about a week ago and announced agreements. Ukraine has been offering Middle Eastern states and Gulf monarchies help in defending against Iranian drones since the beginning of the war. She points to her experience in defending against drones and ballistic missiles in the Russian war of aggression that has been going on for more than four years.

Turkey has already been the venue for direct negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian delegations on several occasions in the struggle to end the war in Ukraine. At the beginning of March, Zelensky announced that Turkey was ready to do so again. Moscow and Kiev recently negotiated in the United Arab Emirates and Switzerland under US mediation, but without a breakthrough. The Iran War delayed a new round in the format.
