TÜRSAB Nature and Adventure Tourism Specialization Head Mikayil Köroğlu said that nature and adventure tourism is a newly developing sector in Türkiye.
Stating that nature and adventure tourism has a history of approximately 20-25 years in the world, Köroğlu said, “It is increasing. Especially the new generation is showing interest. When we say nature and adventure, it may be a little underwhelming, but when we say ‘experience tourism’, it becomes a little more memorable. There is a serious interest in experience tourism, especially among the new generation.”
Stating that this sector has been in Türkiye for about 20 years, Köroğlu said, “I also work as a mountain and nature guide. I have both personal and agency experience in many fields. We strive to introduce this knowledge to other agencies, guides and the Turkish people. We do these jobs with a somewhat idealistic approach. Therefore, TÜRSAB also has a great power. We started a study with the thought ‘Why is this power not used?’ We laid a very good foundation in our second term. We continue our work on this foundation. More “I can say that we will make our voices heard,” he said.
650 TYPES OF ACTIVITIES
Köroğlu stated that when it comes to nature and adventure tourism, a total of 650 types of activities such as cycling, canoeing, mountain and rock climbing, rafting and hiking can be done, and shared the following information:
“For example, sea kayaking has a system that is resistant to waves. As far as I know, there are agencies that are members of TÜRSAB and have been doing this for 15-20 years. But they remain on a small scale. They organize promotional events to spread this to the whole of Türkiye and for other agencies to say ‘There is such tourism’.”
“It is usually held in Kaş, Marmaris and that coastline. But a tourist does not come to Türkiye just to do sea kayaking. He devotes 1 day to canoeing, 1 day to rafting, and there is a concept we call multi-activity tours. Generally, these are 6-7-day packages. There is also an activity of diving and rock climbing every day.”
