A few ships are still sailing through the strait between the Arabian Peninsula and the Iranian coast. But the passage slowly becomes unpredictable.
There have been further incidents in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz following suspected attacks by Iran. An “unknown projectile” hit a cargo ship in the strait and caused a fire, the British Merchant Shipping Safety Authority (UKMTO) reported today. The crew has asked for assistance and the ship is being evacuated.
The UKMTO reported that a bulk carrier was also hit by an “unknown projectile” in the Persian Gulf off the coast of Dubai. But the crew is safe. The British authorities had also announced hours earlier that a container ship further east had been hit by an “unknown projectile” at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.
In the course of the war between the USA and Israel with Iran, ships in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman repeatedly come under fire. The threat from Iranian missiles and drones has brought commercial shipping in the region to an almost complete standstill since the war began a week and a half ago.
