According to the Federal Reserve (Fed), the US economy has recently grown slightly. “The overall outlook is optimistic,” the Fed said in its “Beige Book” economic report published on Wednesday. Most of the twelve Fed districts expected slight to moderate growth in the coming months. Companies also assumed that prices would rise somewhat more slowly in the short term. However, the central bank noted that the data was collected before February 23rd. They do not take into account the Supreme Court’s ruling against many of the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump or the start of the Iran war.
At the end of January, the monetary authorities left the key interest rate in the range of 3.50 to 3.75 percent, thereby interrupting a series of interest rate cuts. In view of increased wholesale prices and oil prices that have risen due to the Iran conflict, experts firmly expect that the Fed will keep its feet still at its meeting on March 17th and 18th. Traders are currently assuming that a further rate cut could only come at the meeting at the end of July.
By then the leadership of the central bank will probably have changed. Trump submitted his nomination of former Fed Governor Kevin Warsh to the US Senate on Wednesday to replace Jerome Powell. Powell’s term ends in mid-May. Market observers expect Warsh to support the steep interest rate cuts demanded by Trump.
According to the government, the US population supports the decision to go to war against Iran. “I think she does,” said government spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt in response to a question. “The president knows that the country is smart enough to look beyond the many false headlines,” Leavitt said. She was alluding to media reports that question the legality of the attack on Iran.
A poll commissioned by CNN previously found that 59 percent of Americans opposed the initial decision to attack Iran. 41 percent support it. For the representative survey, SSRS surveyed 1,004 Americans on behalf of CNN. The survey took place on Saturday and Sunday.
