Tetrapods refer to vertebrates with four legs. Scientific sources used to assume that the first tetrapods were exclusively carnivorous because these vertebrates were thought to have been slow to adapt to feeding on plants, even though plants had arrived on land much earlier.

The newly discovered fossil changes this view. The tooth structure of Tyrannoroter heberti shows adaptations that can cut and grind hard plant fibers. So this creature could really feed on plants. Thus, evidence emerged that herbivory may have evolved from the time when tetrapods first came to land.
