132.3 billion lira worth of payments were made by card during Eid al-Adha

According to the Interbank Card Center’s (BKM) card payment data for this year’s Eid al-Adha, card payments increased by 93 percent compared to the Eid al-Adha period of 2023.

During the period in question, the market sector, which was the sector with the highest spending, accounted for 22 percent of total card payments, while the clothing sector accounted for 12 percent, the gas stations sector 10 percent, the food sector 10 percent and the miscellaneous food sector 8 percent.

– Sectors that saw the highest increase in card payments during the holiday

When card payments made during Eid al-Adha this year were compared to last year, it was seen that the highest increase was in the jewelry sector with 137 percent.

The jewelry sector was followed by the clothing sector with an increase of 127 percent and the car rental sector with an increase of 116 percent, while the grocery sector with an increase of 110 percent and the health products/cosmetics sector with an increase of 108 percent were among the other sectors that showed the highest increase compared to the previous year.

DAY-BASED CARD PAYMENT DISTRIBUTION

According to the data, 45.4 billion lira worth of card payments were made on the eve of the holiday, making up nearly half of the total payments made during the holiday period.

On the eve of the festival, the time range when the most card transactions took place was between 18.00-19.00, while the minute when the most transactions took place was 18.12.

94 percent of the expenditures made during Eid al-Adha were made domestically and 6 percent abroad.

During the 2024 Eid al-Adha, domestic expenditures increased by 94 percent to 124.4 billion liras, while international expenditures increased by 84 percent to 7.9 billion liras.
