The authorities continue to look for Charlie Kirk’s murderer in the United States. A Canadian was incorrectly held responsible for the crime on the net.
After the attack on the right influencer Charlie Kirk, a man was wrongly suspected of shot on Kirk on the net. Users of social networks first blamed a man named Michael Mallinson for the crime. Mallinson was also accused of being a registered voter for the Democrats in the state of Utah.
The false allegations apparently arose after a suspect was arrested on Kirk after the assassination attempt on Kirk, who looked like Mallinson. Subsequently, an X-account with the name “Fox 11 Reno” Mallinson’s name and a photo of the Canadian spread. However, the “New York Times” reports that the profile of the same name from the city in the state of Nevada had nothing to do. It was a fake account.
A spokeswoman for the Sinclair Broadcast Group, who belongs to the FOX subsidiary in Nevada, said that the account “outputs itself as a transmitter” and try to close it. In the meantime, all information about the attack on Kirk has been deleted on the profile.
However, the news spread quickly on the net. Mallinson’s daughter also became aware of her father’s pictures and informed him about it. “I’m just shocked,” he said on Wednesday of the “New York Times”. “How quickly something like this can happen how quickly the name and photo of a person can be spread.”
Mallinson was not at the university in Utah at the time of the crime, but lived in the Canadian city of Toronto. Because of the wrong suspicions on social media, he was insulted as “wild”.
In response, the 77-year-old informed the local police and deleted his profiles from social media. “I assume that the waves will soon smooth out because the news situation changes so quickly,” said Mallinson. “But there is always the possibility that any idiots will get this information in your hands somewhere in a few months and start making noise about it.”
The alleged shooter in the murder attack was still not caught. Two suspects who were arrested shortly after the crime are now at large again. The 31-year-old Kirk was shot on Wednesday when he spoke as a guest speaker on the campus of the University of Utah Valley. He was a well-known representative of the right-wing conservative movement in the United States and was considered a Trump ally. The US President made Kirk’s death known on his Truth Social platform.
