SV number, SVNR: What the abbreviations on your payroll mean

Every citizen is assigned a social security number in Germany. This is how the German pension insurance succeeds in identifying them.
The employer reports employment with the health insurance company and the pension insurance institution is triggered by the award of the number. You will then receive your personal number.

The abbreviation “SV number” is mostly used on pay slips. If you want to know what your number is, just look under this abbreviation. You can find them at the social security card at “Insurance number”.
Your social security number is individual and will only be awarded once – even if you change your name or insurance sponsor. If you should lose your social security ID, you can apply for it, like any important document.
