The war in the Middle East continues to worsen: The US President leaves the G7 summit prematurely in Canada and calls for Tehran’s evacuation.
According to the White House, US President Donald Trump leaves the G7 summit in Canada prematurely. Trump’s spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt announced that Trump would return to Washington to take care of many important affairs. As the reason, she cited the situation in the Middle East.
Trump himself promoted understanding for his early departure because of the Middle East crisis. “I have to go back, that is very important,” said Trump on Monday evening (local time) in the traditional “family photo” with the other heads of state and government of the group of states to a question of journalists. He wanted to thank the “great host” Canada, “but they probably see what I see and I have to be back as quickly as I can”.
Trump said to the summit: “I loved it. And I think we could do a lot.” He spoke of a “really good relationship” to the other participants. He added: “I wish I could stay until tomorrow, but they understand that. It’s about a lot.” He announced that he was still dinner with his “wonderful” G7 colleagues and then climbing on the plane. The working dunks should be about geopolitical topics. U.S. media had previously reported, citing insiders, that Trump did not want to sign a joint statement by the G7 countries on the war between Israel and Iran.
Before the announcement of his departure, the US President had asked the inhabitants of the city of Tehran to flee. “Everyone should leave Tehran immediately,” Trump wrote on their Truth Social platform. It remained unclear what the motivation for Trump’s call for evacuation was. In his article, Trump wrote that Tehran should have signed the agreement he proposed in the dispute over the Iranian nuclear program. What is now happening is a “waste of human life”. Trump added to capital letters: “Iran is not allowed to have any nuclear weapon.”
In the Iranian capital Tehran, which has been shaken by Israeli attacks for days, an estimated around nine million people live. There have been reports of long traffic jams on default roads since the weekend because many residents flee. A total of around 16 million people live in the Tehran area.
Netanyahu also warns: “‘Leave the area!’ – and we act “
In the afternoon, Israel initially called for a Tehran district to evacuate around 300,000 inhabitants. Shortly afterwards, the main building of a state broadcaster was hit there. Previously, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had called for the residents of Tehran to flee. “We tell the citizens of Tehrans: ‘Leave the area!’ – and we act, “says Netanyahu.
In the evening, the US broadcaster Fox News reported that Trump asked his national security council to find his return to Washington, DC, in the so-called situation Room, the location center in the White House. The premises serve as the central hub for the acceptance and forwarding of information that is relevant for national security.
At the same time, the news circulated that the United States ordered its military presence in the Middle East region. Defense Minister Pete Hegseth had announced this without further details. According to agreed media reports, the US military with the USS Nimitz moves a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East. In addition, the United States is said to have sent dozens of tanker aircraft to Europe at the weekend in order to be able to use it quickly if necessary.
Reports of alleged American attacks against Iran were rejected as “wrong”. The US troops in the Middle East continued to stick to defending themselves if necessary, the spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, Sean Parnell, said on the platform X. “We will protect American troops & our interests,” he wrote.
The US military supports Israel’s defense, mainly with shooting from Iran fired ballistic rockets. At the same time, the US government has emphasized since the beginning of the attacks at the end of last week that it does not participate in the fighting between Israel and Iran. Protecting your own troops in the region has priority. A total of a total of 40,000 soldiers are currently stationed on the bases of the US military in the region-for example in Iraq, in Qatar or Kuwait.
