Ukraine is under military, but also economically and politically, because of the Russian attack war. President Selenskyj is rebuilding the government to strengthen the economy.

The Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj has commissioned the deputy Prime Minister Julia Swryrydenko to the management of a new government. After a conversation with Swrydenko on Telegram, the head of state announced that it should reorganize the government. The previous head of government Denys Schmyhal had appointed Selenskyj 2020, i.e. before the Russian attack war.

Schmyhal should take over the office of Minister of Defense in the future, Selenskyj said on Facebook in the evening. He did not name the future area of application of the previous Minister of Defense Rustem Umjerow.

The appointment should serve to better develop Ukraine’s economic potential, says Selenskyj. He also spoke to Swrydenko about measures to improve help for the citizens in the country and about the multiplication of armaments production.

In parliament, Werchowna Rada, the elementary of the old and on Thursday the appointment of the new government is scheduled.

“I am expecting the sufficient support of the MPs for the new composition of the Ukrainian government,” wrote Selenskyj on Facebook. The new government should quickly check all agreements with the partners of Ukraine – “what works and what works or needs to be revised or intensified.”

New head of government was acting raw material agreements

Swrydenko is considered an economic and trade expert. The politician, born in the Tschernihiw region in 1985 north of Kiev, initially worked in local politics and in the private sector before being brought into the government after Selenskyj’s election victory in 2019; First as Vice Minister of Economics. Later she rose to the deputy head of the Presidential Administration and since 2021 to the Minister of Economy and Vice President.

Since the beginning of the war, she has taken care of recruiting international help and loans. Finally, she also negotiated the raw material agreement between Kyiv and Washington. In doing so, she showed herself as a tough negotiating partner.

The formation of government is not completely unexpected. The previous head of government Schmyhal had relatively low influence. The MP of the small pro -European party “Holos”, Jaroslaw Schelesnjak, had predicted the fall of Schmyhals in mid -June. His cabinet “loses more and more support,” he said at the time.

In addition, there was more and more speculation about another important personnel recently: Defense Minister Umjerow was traded as a possible ambassador in Washington. Selenskyj wants to meet US President Donald Trump with the replacement of the previous ambassador Oksana Markarowa, media reports said. The Republicans therefore accuse Markarowa of too much political proximity to the Democrats.

Umjerow is considered a familiar Selenskyjs, but was also able to make good contacts in Washington. Selenskyj himself fueled the speculations on the weekend with his evening video message. There he said, both the Ministry of Defense and the diplomacy, especially those with the USA, needed a new dynamic.

Talks with US special envoyskin Kellogg

Shortly before the appointment of Swrydenkos, Selenskyj had a long meeting with the US special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg. A good relationship with Washington is important for Kiev in order to continue to hope for arms deliveries and other support from the USA.
