US agency ICE plans to purchase electric shock gloves

The controversial US migration agency ICE is planning to purchase electric shock gloves. These should be used as “de-escalation devices,” according to a corresponding announcement from the Department of Homeland Security. Ten to 20 million are needed for the purchase US dollars (around 8.7 to 17.3 million euros) and the purchase should be completed by the end of March 2027.

The new purchase is intended to ensure that the emergency services “have the necessary resources and equipment to safely arrest criminals who have entered the country illegally and deport them from our country,” the media quoted a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security as saying. The actions of ICE employees have repeatedly caused criticism in the past.

According to the manufacturer, the gloves with the acronym GLOVE (“Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter”) are activated by pressing a button and emit electric shocks when touching people. The announcement initially left open the specific conditions under which they would be used.

US military helicopter crashes in Texas, two dead

A US military helicopter is in Texas crashed. The two pilots on board were killed, according to the US broadcaster CNN and local news channels reported unanimously, citing the responsible police authority. The crash of the Apache helicopter occurred near the Fort Hood military base of the US Land Forces in a field near the town of Salado, where the crash triggered a wildfire.

It is still unclear why the helicopter crashed. The Fort Hood military base confirmed the crash in a statement without making any reference to the fatalities. “Our thoughts are with the crew and their families as we await further information,” acting commanding general Ethan Diven said, according to the statement. The Pentagon initially did not comment on the accident.
