Miran, who is a former economic adviser to Trump and recently moved to the Fed, also spoke of positive fiscal consequences. Customs revenue would significantly contribute to reducing the budget deficit. Even President Trump admitted at the end of 2025 that US citizens “may have to pay something” as a result of the measures, but that the bottom line was that the policy was positive. There is still legal uncertainty hanging over customs policy: the US Supreme Court is currently examining the legality of the measures. Trump has already warned that a court overturn would be a disaster. Several of the justices on the Supreme Court were nominated by Trump.

A delegation of US senators visited Greenland on Monday in what they say is a bid to restore trust “destroyed” by President Donald Trump. “With a few words, the trust built since World War II has been undermined and destroyed,” Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski told reporters on the autonomous Arctic island that belongs to Denmark. “We must work to restore that trust.” In addition to Republican Murkowski, who is considered a moderate, the delegation also included independent Senator Angus King and Democrats Gary Peters and Maggie Hassan. They visited a US military base on the island and met, among others, Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen.

Since his return to the White House last year, US President Trump has repeatedly made claims to ownership of Greenland, which he justified with US security interests in the Arctic. He withdrew the threat of military force last month. He had previously reached a framework agreement on Greenland with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, but its content is unclear. The USA, Denmark and Greenland set up a joint working group.

“We have a president who abused trust,” said Democratic Senator Peters on Monday, referring to Trump. Addressing the Greenlanders, he added: “We consider you friends. We want you to consider us your friends too.”

The connections between Bill Clinton and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein are coming into focus again. According to the New York Times, newly released files from the US Department of Justice show that Epstein’s confidante Ghislaine Maxwell supported one of Clinton’s most important prestige projects after his presidency.
