The US Army is increasingly attacking the Huthis in Yemen. Now there is said to have been a particularly devastating attack.
According to the Huthi militia, at least 80 people were killed in an attack by the US forces to an oil port in Yemen. 150 people were also injured, reported the broadcaster Al-Masirah TV controlled by the militia on Friday. It was the most serious US attack on the militia financed by Iran. As a response, the Huthis according to their own information fired rockets to Israel and two US aircraft carriers.
The United States confirmed the attack on the oil harbor in the city of Hodeida in the west of the country controlled by the Huthis. With its destruction, the US Army “wanted to eliminate this fuel source for the Huthi terrorists supported by Iran”, said the US regional command Centcom.
The militia should thus be withdrawn an important source of “illegal income” “with which they have been trying to terrorize the entire region for over ten years,” the Centcom continued. “The aim of these attacks was to weaken the economic source of power of the Huthis, which continue to exploit their compatriots and add great suffering.”
Iran, which supports the Huthis, criticized the attack as “barbaric”. The attack is a “clear violation of the basic principles of the United Nations,” said a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry in Tehran.
The United States had started a massive military campaign in mid-March to end the continued attacks of the Huthi militia financed by Iran on ships in the Red Sea. US President Donald Trump threatened the Huthis with “complete annihilation”. Since then, the US armed forces have been taking areas in Yemen almost daily, which are controlled by the militia.
In addition to the Hamas prevailing in the Gaza Strip and the Hisbollah in Lebanon, the Huthis belong to the “axis of resistance” listed by Iran and directed against Israel and the USA. The declared goal is to annihilate Israel.
Hamas had triggered the war in the Gaza Strip with its unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. The Huthis then regularly committed rocket attacks on Israel. Since the beginning of the Gaza War, ships in the Red Sea and in the Gulf of Aden as well as destinations in Israel with drones and rockets-according to their own statements “out of solidarity with the Palestinians” in the Gaza Strip.
