Türk-İş announced the hunger limit figures for June. While the hunger line was 35,759 TL, the poverty line was 116,478 TL.
Monthly kitchen inflation increased by 1.66 percent. It increased by 36.93 percent on an annual basis.
The statement made by Türk-İş is as follows:
“In June, the prices of basic food products in the markets followed a calmer course compared to previous months, and the rate of increase in kitchen inflation seems to have slowed down. However, the fact that the prices are not increasing as fast as before is not enough to relieve the citizens’ kitchen. Because the problem is not only how much the prices have increased, but also the high level the prices have reached.
The lack of an increase in the minimum wage in the second half of the year further weakened the purchasing power of millions of employees. While salaried employees are able to buy fewer products each month with the same income, many families are having difficulty meeting their basic needs. Despite the relative stagnation in food prices, the shortage in the kitchen continues as wages lag behind living conditions. It is of great importance that wages are protected against the high cost of living so that employees can reach a decent income level.
According to the June 2026 results of this research, which is conducted regularly every month by the TURK-İŞ Confederation in order to reveal the living conditions of employees and to determine the reflections of price changes in basic necessities on the family budget;
– The monthly food expenditure (hunger limit) required for a healthy, balanced and adequate diet for a family of four living in Ankara is 35,758.88 TL,
– The total amount of food expenditure and other compulsory monthly expenses for clothing, housing (rent, electricity, water, fuel), transportation, education, health and similar needs is up to 116,478.40 TL (poverty limit).
– The ‘cost of living’ of a single employee increased to 46,248.50 TL per month.
According to TÜRK-İŞ, the change in “kitchen inflation” data was as follows as of June 2026:
– The increase in the minimum expenditure for “food” for a family of four living in Ankara was 1.66 percent compared to the previous month.
– The twelve-month change rate was 36.93 percent.
– The annual average increase was 40.44 percent.
– The six-month increase rate was 18.63 percent.”
Official inflation rates will be announced by TURKSTAT at 10:00 on Friday.
