Trump continues against Harvard. The renowned university is no longer allowed to record foreign students.
Next round in the dispute between US President Donald Trump and the Elite University Harvard. The US administration prohibited the university on Thursday the future admission of students from abroad. The newspaper “New York Times” reports.
Guest students already enrolled must change their residence status or leave the country, according to the US government’s order.
“I would like to inform you that the certification of the Harvard University for the student and exchange program is revoked with immediate effect,” says a letter from Minister of Homeland Protection Kristi Noem to the university that is available to the newspaper.
The US government’s claim is: “The Harvard leadership has created an unsafe campus environment by allowed anti-American and pro-terrorist agitators to harass and attack many Jewish students, and to interfere with the once so venerable learning environment.” In plain language: The university is the Trump government to the left and Woke.
The university considers the procedure of the Trump administration illegal.
The ban does not only affect the university as a place of international research. You also go an important source of income through the lack of tuition fees.
This year, around 6,800 international students visited Harvard, which corresponds to about 27 percent of the student body, as can be seen from the registration data of the university. This is an increase compared to 19.7 percent in 2010.
Trump has been going on against US universities since taking office. Among other things, he strokes funding in climate sciences or gender research. He also acts against pro-Palestinian demonstrations at the universities.
Many universities are bent before the Trump administration’s demands. Harvard keeps it unabated. Also because the university has a loss of billions of foundation that gives it independence. And endurance in legal procedures.
Trump’s ban for foreign students is now cutting Harvard from an important source of money.
