US President Donald Trump reiterates that Iran should not have nuclear weapons. At the same time, he is confident that the government in Tehran wants to conclude an agreement. He announced further discussions for the coming week and emphasized that there was enough time.

According to US President Donald Trump, the indirect negotiations between the USA and Iran in Oman have been positive. “We also had very good discussions about Iran, Iran seems very interested in reaching an agreement,” Trump told reporters on Friday (local time) on the flight to his private estate Mar-a-Lago in Florida. The next round of talks will take place “at the beginning of next week”.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had previously described the climate during the negotiations in the Omani capital Muscat as “very positive”. According to Araghchi, the talks focused exclusively on the nuclear issue. The US had previously urged that Tehran’s support for militias in the Middle East and its ballistic missile program also need to be put on the agenda.

In the conflict with Iran, US President Donald Trump has threatened punitive tariffs against the country’s trading partners. According to an order from the Republican, tariffs should be levied on imports into the USA that come from countries that obtain goods or services from Iran. He did not name specific country names, but gave 25 percent as an example of the level of tariffs.

The threatened tariffs are therefore an option that the USA reserves. The decree establishes a system to impose such additional tariffs on Iran’s trading partners, the White House explained.

After the conclusion of the first nuclear talks with the USA in months in Oman, Iran has announced a continuation of the negotiations. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rated the climate of talks in Oman’s capital Muscat on Friday as “very positive”. At the meetings, the delegations of the enemy states did not confer directly with each other, but through Oman’s mediators. The US government announced new sanctions against Iranian oil exports.
