A legislative proposal in the US state of Arkansas causes excitement. He could lead to arbitrary law enforcement. And should not only put hairdressers in horror.
In the US state of Arkansas, a Trump supporter with a bizarre legislative initiative causes a stir, which, among other things, also prohibits the wearing of “non-gender-compliant” hairstyles. The proposed law stipulates that everyone who contributes to promoting the “social transition of minors”.
All those who do not act in the spirit of the credos proclaimed by the Trump administration are targeted by a clear separation of male and female role ideas. These include, for example, teachers who do not address a student with his birth name, but with a self-chosen name, aid organizations that offer minor psychological care on the subject of gender identity or even hairdressers who cut the girls a “Tomboy” haircut (a short hairstyle).
This means that if parents do not agree that their daughter comes home with a haircut who is usually intended for boys, they could simply sue the hairdresser in the future.
Republican Mary Bentley brought the legislative template. “It is about protecting children from being pushed into a gender ideology. We have to make sure that children are not forced to make decisions that they do not understand.” Against a “gender confusion”, as Bentley thinks, only therapy can help children.
Bentley cheered one of Donald Trump’s first official acts after his inauguration in January. At that time, Trump had signed a presidential decree that is supposed to ensure that there will only be two genders in the United States, male and female. The decree is titled: “Defense of women before the extremism of gender ideology and restoring the biological truth in the federal administration”.
Trump’s executive order is a major pillar of his right -wing, anti -liberal agenda and is considered an important signal to arch -conservative supporters and those from the evangelical camp. The new Defense Minister Pete Hegseth had recently announced that the US military will be released all trans people from the US military next month. According to estimates by the US Denkfabrik Palm Center, the measure could affect up to 15,000 soldiers.
Bentley has already positioned herself with numerous legislative initiatives in her home state of Arkansas as an abortion and transgender opponent, she also describes herself as afraid of God. The new legislation called “Vulnerable Youth Protection Act” provides for high fines for all those who contribute to “clothing, pronouns, hairstyle and names of children no longer correspond to their biological gender”.
“We hereby make it clear that a gender change is extremely harmful for children, and we want to change that in our state,” said Bentley at a hearing in front of the House of Representatives of Arkansas. “We would like to make sure that our children are no longer exposed to this danger.”
But even in pronounced conservative circles, the law is rejected, as the newspaper “Arkansas Times” writes. If it were adopted, excessive law enforcement would be open to the doors. However, the chances of adoption are good. The Republicans have a clear majority in both congress chambers in the state.
The law stipulates that corresponding lawsuits could be brought in up to 15 years after the incident. The sentence ranges up to $ 15 million with $ 10,000.
