Poland is alerted into their own airspace after the penetration of Russian drones. US President Trump, on the other hand, assumes an unintentional mistake.
After the penetration of Russian drones into Polish airspace, US President Donald Trump speculates about an oversight. “It could have been a mistake,” he said to journalists. “I’m not happy about the whole situation, but I hope that she will come to an end.”
Previously, at least 19 Russian drones had penetrated the Polish airspace for over seven hours, sometimes hundreds of kilometers far into the interior. Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski meanwhile contradicts the thesis of an oversight.
A campaign of this extent and over this period cannot be a coincidence, he emphasizes. “This is a military and political test not only for Poland, but for the entire NATO.”
Poland therefore applied for a meeting of the UN Security Council. Sikorski explained that they want to “attract the attention of the whole world to this unprecedented attack by Russian drones on a Member State not only the UN, but also the European Union and NATO.
According to the Reuters news agency, the national security office said that the incident was an “prelude” for the “Sapad” military maneuver from Russia and Belarus, which began on Friday, which is located directly on the Border with Poland.
