Donald Trump gives his State of the Union address. Dozens of Democrats want to stay away from the speech. All developments in the news blog.
After railing against illegal immigration for an hour and making numerous insults, including against individual ethnic groups, Trump turned to the wars he claimed to have ended. He renewed his oft-stated claim that he had ended numerous conflicts, including those in Thailand and Cambodia and the war in Gaza.
Trump only briefly addressed the conflicts in Iran and Ukraine. He praised his administration for severely restricting Iran’s ability to enrich uranium and produce nuclear weapons during the “Twelve Day War.” Trump said they are now in negotiations with the mullahs’ regime in Tehran and will reach a good deal. “I will never allow the world’s greatest sponsor of terror, which they are by far, to have a nuclear weapon. I cannot allow that,” he said in his State of the Union address. “We are in negotiations with them. They want to make a deal.”
About the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, which Trump has been trying in vain to solve for more than twelve months, the Republican simply says: “With me as president, this war would never have broken out.”
US President Donald Trump has renewed his debunked claim of alleged voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election. His second term was supposed to be his third, “but strange things happen,” Trump said during his State of the Union address to both houses of the US Parliament.
Even years after Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election, Trump is not conceding his defeat. Instead, the 79-year-old adamantly claims that he was deprived of his election victory through fraud. This has long been refuted many times.
Trump wants to oblige large technology companies to cover their growing electricity needs themselves in the future. The companies could build power plants for their data centers directly at the respective locations, Trump said during his State of the Union address. This is intended to prevent electricity prices for consumers from rising – in some regions they could even fall, Trump speculated.
The power requirements of data centers – especially for artificial intelligence applications – are enormous. The more AI finds its way into business and everyday life, the greater the computing capacity required and thus the energy consumption. According to the International Energy Agency, a medium-sized data center uses as much electricity as around 100,000 households. It is estimated that a single ChatGPT query requires six to ten times as much energy as a classic search engine query.
