The tensions between Ukraine and the USA are increasing. Trump questions Selenskyj’s legitimacy, this makes Washington serious allegations.
“I am very disappointed,” said the US President in his estate Mar-A-Lago and blamed Selenskyj personally for the outbreak of the war. He heard that Kiev was outraged by getting “no place” at the conversation table, Trump said. “Today I heard: ‘Oh, we were not invited.’ Well, you have never been there for three years.
Trump already commented on the supposedly low poll values of President Selenskyj in Ukraine and – without any evidence – claimed that Selenskyj only had a “approval rate of four percent”. Trump then demanded new elections in Ukraine as soon as the peace negotiations are made.
In a post from Wednesday afternoon, Trump verbally made up again and described Selenskyj as a “dictator without elections” who had drawn the United States into a war. Trump also repeated the accusation that Selenskyj refused to hold elections. The Ukrainian parliament decided to hold elections again after the war against Russia.
Trump’s contribution on his own platform “Truth Social” contained further false claims and the warning that Selenskyj’s Land will soon not be much left. “I love Ukraine, but Selenskyj did a terrible job, his country has been destroyed and millions have died senselessly,” said Trump.
On Wednesday, the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (Kiis) published a new survey on Selenskyj’s trust – and thus refuted Trump’s claims. The survey carried out between the 4th and 9th February showed that 57 percent of the respondents continue to pronounce their trust to the Ukrainian President. In December 2024, this value was less than five percentage points less.
The head of the Kiis, Anton Hrushetskyi, commented on the statements of the US President: Even if “international allies and partners” in the course of possible peace negotiations “question and urge the legitimacy of the President”, there would be “from the” The Ukrainian population point of view no problems. ” The survey clearly shows that people in Ukraine are still behind their president.
President Selenskyj again commented on Trump’s allegations in Kiev on Wednesday. “Unfortunately, President Trump lives in this area of disinformation,” says Selenskyj. “We saw this wrong information, we assume that it comes from Russia.” Selenskyj also accused the Trump government of having freed Putin from isolation. “I think the USA helped Putin to break out of isolation for years,” said Selenskyj with a view to the talks between the USA and Russia in Saudi Arabia. “All of this has no positive effects on Ukraine.”
Selenskyj renewed his demand for security guarantees. “We want security guarantees this year because we want to end the war this year. I defend Ukraine, I can’t sell our country. This is all,” he said with regard to Trump’s proposal, in return for your support for your support to be admitted to the raw materials of Ukraine. Selenskyj had rejected this proposal.
