US President Donald Trump was booed when visiting the US Open final in New York. Boos and whistles opened when the Trump sitting in the stadium was shown on large screens during the game between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, at the same time applause could be heard.

Already at Trump’s arrival, he had been greeted with a mixture of applause and whistles, which, however, largely went down by the music played in the stadium. The 79-year-old Republican took a seat in a box, he did not appear alone, but with a large entourage. Including his staff chief Susi Wiles, the US specialist Steve Witkoff, Minister of Justice Pam Bondi, Minister of Finance Scott Bessent, press spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, son-in-law Jared Kushner and Arabella Kushner. On the other hand, First Lady Melania Trump was missing.

The match started with more than half an hour delay because many spectators are hitting Trump’s visit to the tightened security checks on the entrances. As US media report, visitors to the final had to wait in long lines before the entrances to the Arthur-Ashe stadium because the President’s column with his much-headed entourage and the security forces of the Secret Service, the Presidential Service, had to take their place.

The security measures when visiting the president are enormous. “As a result of the security measures that are currently being carried out, and to grant that all visitors can take their place in good time, we have moved the start time of the final back to 2:30 p.m. American East Coast period,” said an official message from the organizers. The fans, some of whom had paid thousands of dollars for a ticket, obviously didn’t like the long waiting time.

At 1.45 p.m. the president was already in a sponsorship lodge of the stadium and waved to the audience-but the Center Court was only ten percent filled, as the broadcaster NBC reported. Most fans waited for admission before the stadium. And even at the beginning of the match between Alcaraz and Sinner, many of the seats remained empty.
