In a few hours, the weapons are to be silent during the war between Israel and Iran. US President Trump even speaks of the end of the war.
Iran contradicted a ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump with Israel. The fighting between the two countries still came to a standstill on Tuesday night. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghtschi said there was no “agreement”. However, Iran will not continue his attacks if Israel hires its “illegal aggression” until 4 a.m. No Israeli attacks have been reported since this period.
According to Trump, it should be a “complete and absolute” ceasefire. “I would like to congratulate both countries-Israel and Iran-that they had endurance, courage and wisdom to end the so-called ‘twelve-day war’,” the US President wrote on his Truth Social platform on Monday around 6 p.m. (local time).
According to Trump’s announcement, the ceasefire should come into force as soon as both sides ended. Initially, Iran will comply with a ceasefire for twelve hours, then Israel for twelve hours, Trump announced. After these 24 hours, the war was considered ending. That would be Wednesday morning (MESZ). “This is a war that could have continued for years and who could have destroyed the whole Middle East, but it didn’t come that way – and it won’t come,” wrote Trump.
Israel had started his war ten days ago with massive attacks on Iran. At the weekend, the USA also bombed three Iranian nuclear facilities. On Monday, the Iran carried out a limited retaliation against a US air base in Qatar, in which no one was harmed. According to Trump, the Iranians had warned the United States about the attack.
A final decision on the cessation of one’s own military operations is made at a later date, the Iranian Foreign Minister Araghtschi wrote. From the Israeli side there was initially no confirmation for Trump’s announced ceasefire. The Israeli television station Channel 12 reports that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also agreed to a ceasefire in a conversation with US President Donald Trump. The condition is that Iran sets its attacks.
According to agreement, the agreement of the ceasefire was also concluded thanks to the mediation of the Emirate of Qatar. Qatar maintains good relationships with both Iran and the USA.
Previously, the US President had already thanked Truth Social for a warning on the retaliation attack at Iran. This made it possible for no dead or injuries to be complained about, said Trump. 13 of the total of 14 rockets were intercepted, the last one was on an unexpected trajectory. He hoped that there would now be “no further hatred”, Trump wrote. “Perhaps Iran can now go to peace and harmony in the region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same.”
On the night of Tuesday – also several hours before Trump’s entry into force of the ceasefire – Tehran had heard several violent explosions in the Iranian capital, as correspondents from the AFP news agency reported on site. The Israeli army had previously called up residents of an area in the center of Tehran for evacuation.
