The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), the joint project of the European Space Agency (ESA), NASA and Canada Space Agency, published an image from the depths of the universe.
Focusing on a piece of sky, which is only one -fifth of the Moon, the telescope displayed thousands of galaxies in a single frame, 12 billion light years away. In the image, the majority of the light points are not stars, but galaxies of different sizes and forms. These galaxies open a window towards the past in the 13.8 billion -year -old timeline since the formation of the universe.
The data obtained by JWST were collected within the scope of the international research project ‘Cosmos-Web’, which examines the structure of the universe. This project aims to understand the formation of clusters of galaxy and the distribution in the universe. The images combined with the data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory show that the cluster is the largest galaxy group in this frame.
